3 things I appreciate about Germany after coming back from India (+ BONUS German potato bread recipe!!!)
After an incident in my host’s family was the final straw in a chain of events leading to me ending my India trip ealier, I have found myself actually very happy to be home in Germany again.
I had planned for two months in India, but after my trip started with me losing my passport on the train to the airport and having to cut my first stay short, my trip wasn’t necessarily off to a good start.
Before I left, I was quite bored and annoyed with Germany! The uptightness, the countless rules and regulations (German bureaucracy, am I right?), the standoffishness in a lot of people. Can’t we all just get along? D:
German potato bread recipe
Ingredients
1kg floury potatoes
1 1/2 cube yeast
1 1/2 tsp sugar
125 ml lukewarm milk (or vegan alternative)
500g flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
Peel and grate the potatoes. Drain well in a sieve. Dissolve the yeast and sugar in the milk. Cover the pre-dough and leave to rise until bubbles form. Place the potatoes in a bowl. Add pre-dough, flour and salt. Knead well. Cover and leave to rise for 30-60 minutes. Knead vigorously for 5 minutes. Grease a loaf tin (ghee, anyone?), pour in the dough. Leave to rise again for 15 minutes. Bake 20 minutes at 150 degrees, then 40 minutes at 200 degrees. Wait 10 minutes before removing from tin, leave to cool and enjoy!
